Partagas – Benji Menendez Master Series Majestuoso

Posted By ironmeden on January 16, 2010

As far as I can remember, one of the first named cigars I can remember smoking is a Partagas. I blame the Partagas Black for being the cigar that pulled me into the hobby of cigar smoking.

When cigar manufacturers are putting new cigars out on a yearly basis and some on a monthly schedule, when Partagas releases a new cigar, its certainly worth stopping for.

A couple years ago I had the honor meeting Benji Menendez when he visited a local cigar shop. I had never met anyone with the rich history of cigar knowledge. It was fun to listen to his stories and how he goes about blending.

The cigar i’m about to review is extremely limited in production. Its been released to a limited number of cigar shops maxing out at 5000 boxes production run. It also was just named the #15 cigar in Cigar Aficionado’s top 25 of 2009

When I saw this new Partagas, my eyes lit up and my check card couldn’t get swiped fast enough.

The cigar measures 6 x 46 with a dark Cameroon wrapper, the binder is Havana Connecticut with Dominican and Nicaraguan filler. The wrapper has a dark and rich appearance.

I punched the head of the cigar and lit it with a table top lighter. The first impression is sweet, smooth and quite delicious. The cigar is full bodied and has a sharp burn.

At the 1/4 mark the cigar loses a little body, but its still tasting delicious. I’m still getting a sweet note with some coffee flavors.

Halfway through the cigar hasn’t changed, its moved into a more medium body keeping the sweet note.

At the 3/4 mark the power of the cigar is ramped up. This part of the cigar certainly has some stronger tobacco. I’m impressed the sweetness has continues throughout the cigar. The richness of the cigar is quite evident at this point.

Overall this is a delicious cigar. It starts off strong, losing a little umph in the middle but it finishes off quite strong. I should of had a big dinner before smoking this cigar. I highly recommend this cigar if you enjoy full bodied cigars. I give this cigar a 4.5 out of 5. Rating: ★★★★½
