Gurkha Elegance

Are you ready for some football? Its that time of year again for sitting around all day Sunday and watching NFL football! The last couple weeks I spent going to fantasy football drafts. Good Lord help me i’m in 4 leagues this year. I was supposed to be in only 3, but Elvis decided I should join another league. So every Sunday i’ll be sitting there fighting myself and the teams I picked. One team will have a guy i’m rooting for, then in the other league i’ll be playing against him. God I love this time of year!

Gurkha Elegance

Gurkha sure can wrapper a pretty cigar. I’m not sure how they do it, but most of the cigars I smoke from Gurkha just have that clean and sharp appearance. It always gets me thinking how they actually do it and if you take a look at the Padron line of cigars, their x000 series of cigars, they are not always so attractive. A little bumpy, a little veiny. But with the better looking wrapper, most of us are paying for it in the B&M shops…unless your buying on line where the Elegance I smoked retails for just over $20, you can get the same stick for under half that amount.

The wrapper is golden brown Connecticut wrapper (that is all the info I could find at the Gurkha website). Standard copper toned Gurkha label with the black and silver toned second band disclaiming the Elegance name. Looking at the foot of the cigar the blend looks like it could pack a fuller punch. There is a lot of darker tobacco intertwined in the filler.

I toasted the foot with my Colibri triple flame lighter. Right away I get that classic Gurkha flavor. After the Gurkha flavor there is a slight bite of flavor. Strong almond liquor but not like a heavy syrup note. At the end of each  puff it has a creamy buttery note. There is a definite bite on the tip of the tongue.

The cigar at the 1/4 mark the cigar loses that bite and is smoother and richer. At the start it felt like I might be enjoying a medium to full cigar, at the point the cigar turned more mild to medium.

The halfway mark the cigar is giving off a more ash flavor. That classic Gurkha flavor is still there, but its lighter.

On the way to the 3/4 mark the cigar regains some of that bite again, but it wasn’t with every puff. It was hit and miss. The cigar is still smooth.

The cigar ended on a mild note but with the hints of spice at time, but it wasn’t overpowering. Just the right amount of spice.

Gurkha has finally created a Connecticut wrapped cigar that has some flavor! This is a nice experience from start to finish. It hits you with some spicy notes and then settles down and lets you relax but with not being too boring. There is just the right amount of flavor to keep the smoker interested as they go through it. I’m giving this cigar a 4 out of 5.
