Felipe Gregorio – The Moroccan Series – Essaoura 40/60
Posted By ironmeden on August 2, 2009
This is the final cigar in The Moroccan Series from Felipe Gregorio. I’ve had a great pleasure in sampling these cigars and getting to know the Felipe Gregorio line. I think in this series there is certainly a cigar for everyone. Amine Taoulost was generous with his time whenever I had a question about the line of cigars I was reviewing. If you haven’t had a Felipe in a while because you been distracted by other new and hip cigars, you should certainly give these cigars a smoke.

Essaoura – 40/60 – Amir
Essaouira is one of Morocco’s most enjoyable and attractive towns on the coast. Its’ charm is undeniable with it’s white washed and blue shutting house. Interestingly, it is also the city that contains the ‘castle’ from the Jimi Hendrix’s song ‘Castles in the Sand’.
The tobacco grown here is loaded with rich, earthy flavors. The Essaoura uses a 40% blend with Vuelta Abajo tobacco grown in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic. A power cigar filled with earthy components and long finish. The cigar has a Vuelta Abajo Habano Wrapper.
The size I have for this sample is the Amir which is a 5 x 52. It comes to a tapered end at the foot with a tobacco wick for lighting. There are 2 bands just like the other cigars in The Moroccan series but this one has a yellow and black color scheme.
The wrapper is dark with a chocolate aroma. Just looking at this cigar makes my mouth salivate. It looks delicious.
I punched the cigar and lit it with my Colibri Tripe flame lighter. My first initial taste is dark chocolate. There was a tough draw at the start, but once the cigar made it over the bulge at the foot, it opened up.
At the 1/4 the cigar takes on a great rich leather flavor. The cigar is quite juicy. It is certainly living up to a full bodied cigar.
At the 1/2 point the cigar is taking on a more earthy flavor with the leather taste.
The 3/4 mark finds the cigar ramping up to its full flavored potential. This a slow burning cigar and it was nice to sit back with it, but once I stood up, my head started spinning. At this point I had to put the camera down and just enjoy the cigar. I was not expecting this type of power from this firecracker.
Now that I’ve caught my breath, I can settle down. That was one beefy smoke. For you guys that truly enjoy the full bodied side of life, you must pick this cigar up. I didn’t pick up any hints of spice throughout the smoke, just a smooth full bodied cigar. I give this cigar a 4.5 out of 5.
