Don Ramon – Connecticut

It looks like the government is about to screw your average cigar smoker once again. With most states enacting or looking to enact smoking bans and high state tobacco taxes, your friendly Federal Government is about to pass everyone’s favorite pork barrel project SCHIP. Though the idea of of the SCHIP program warrants good intentions, the program has become bloated and has strayed away from it’s original intent of just covering children who’s parents cannot afford health insurance. You will soon feel more comfortable that your taxes dollars will be going now to adults and illegal aliens.
All Hope is lost, your Change is about to hit your pocketbooks very soon.
Don Ramon – Connecticut
Earlier this week I received an email from Andrew Roth from HJ Bailey Company. They are the nation’s leading wholesale cigar distributor. He contacted us to promote their house blend cigar Don Ramon.
The cigar is a tribute to Raymond D. Roth who passed in 1998. The cigar comes in Connectict and Maduro wrappers and is made of 100% Honduran Binder and Fillers. The cigar is made by Camacho Cigars.
Andrew sent us samples of both Maduro and Connecticut of the giant 6 x 60 cigar.
The band is simple, not a lot of razzle dazzle goin on with the design. Yellow is the primary color with Black and Red as accents.
The Connectict is a nice golden brown with a cuban style triple cap. There are very little veins on the wrapper.
I punched the cigar and lit it with a table top lighter. I think the next one I smoke i’ll just cut the head of the cigar. I think just puching a 60 ringe gauge cigar limits the amount of flavor notes you would come to expect for a larger cigar.
The first inital taste I got was a very light toffee flavor. It was smooth and it had a loose draw. It didn’t feel like it was tightly packed.
From the very start to about 3/4 mark of the cigar is mild and smooth. It was a very nice smoke. The burn was never uneven, but it was a little ragged at times. The ash at times seemed to take on a curved looked. Both of these didn’t take away from the overall smoking enjoyment of the cigar. At the 3/4 mark the cigar seemed to get a little richer in flavor.
If you enjoy the milder side of life, then this cigar will be quite a treat for you. The one downside of the cigar seems to be the quickness of how this cigar smokes. I did end up smoking a 2nd one and I clipped the head of the cigar. It is still what I consider a mild cigar even with the larger opening, but there wasn’t any more flavor coming out of it. Both cigars were done in about an hour. Still a very pleasant cigar which I rate is a 3.5 out of 5.
