CigarHeads – Vintage 73

Posted By ironmeden on January 29, 2009

Last summer Elvis and I attended the Midwest Cigar Summit in Peoria, Ill. While we were there we met up with the owners of a boutique cigar called CigarHeads.biz. Jackson and his daughter Jennifer were there to promote their line of cigars as well as great line of cigar accessories. We had a great time at the Summit smoking their cigars and hanging out. They were great people to get to know.

The one thing I remember about their booth, they had a large cigar there that would make a porno star blush called the ‘Monica’. I think it was there more for novelty, but it is a smokeable cigar. The ring gauge on this cigar is 96 with a length of 6 inches. If I was a collector I would certainly of picked that up.

We’ve been smoking these cigars since the Summit but we never took the time to do a review….now its time.

The construction of the cigars are solid. Nice looking wrapper with a little give rolling through the fingers. The prelight smell of the wrapper gives off a slight cocoa note. The bands are flashy, but the design of the band are quite plain. The middle of the band has the initials CHB with Vintage 73 below. I like that they put the name of the cigar on the band. The rest of the band is brown, black and white with a shiny gold accent. I think they should have the character that is on their website be on the front of all their bands, now that is a great design.

I cut the tip of the cigar and lit it with a table top lighter. My first few puffs from the cigar were a little bitter, but it only lasted those first few. It had a very smooth texture and nice draw.

The size of the cigar is 6 x 54. The cigar is a Nicaraguan Puro from the Esteli region.

At the 1/4 mark the cigar seemed a little dry with some earthy and light wood flavors. The burn was a little off on the cigar. At the time of my reivew, Elvis was smoking the Maduro from this same line and the burn was giving him a little trouble.

The halfway point the burn evened out, the draw was still fantastic. The complexity of the cigar came around. It was turning now into a medium flavored cigar. The first half was a little mild. The richness was certainly there at this point.

The 3/4 mark found the cigar relaxing a bit. It really mellowed out.

This cigar is a nice smooth stick.  With light complexities throughout this is nice hour or so cigar to sit back relax and have a nice whisky to compliment it with. I give this cigar a 3 out of 5.
