Gurkha Art Deco

With Elvis out of town for the week, i’ve taken the time to get acquainted with his wife better. We are now tight, she’s easy win over with wine!
So he’s out shmoozing with the T.V. Industry people and smoking some nice cigars. He has acquired the cigar for our club’s anniversary this year. Its a great find and is one of the hottest cigars out there right now. From what i’ve read on other cigar blogs, its very hard to come by and a local store received a shipment of one container and it was gone within a few days. Our anniversary is in November and I was knocking my head against the wall on what we should try. We are doing a Perdomo Silvio in September which is a very nice stick, so we kicked around the idea of the getting the Pardon 64. I know a lot of guys have had that stick, so I think getting this limited cigar for the anniversary will be quite a coup. Why won’t I say what it is? Well we have members who read this blog and I want to keep it a secret until October.
Next up is my weight loss. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I started a diet. I’ve been on it now 5 weeks and today I reached the 20 pound mark! I’m now at 212! I don’t think i’ve been this light in about 6 years. Though I still have the nice little gut, its a lot smaller. My goal again is 200, so i’m thinking another 3 weeks and I might be there!
I met up with Dan from Cigar Monkey on Monday night at Golden Leaf Tobacco in St. Paul. He was in town for business and we were meeting to discuss the Midwest Cigar Summit which takes place September 5th and 6th in Peroria Illinois. If you are in the area, you should certainly come check it out. Dan is going to have Gene Arganese at his booth on Saturday where he will be selling Arganese Cigars and having great giveaways.
Now the events that have made me very angry recently. In my yard I had 8 colored globes that change color at night. I have about 13 other solar lights that line the townhome also. Now I said ‘had’ 8 colored globes because now i’m down to 2. Over a week’s time, during the night somebody decided that the globes were now theirs. I filed a report with the police, but since the total of the globes only came to about $100, it was not a priority for them. I put up a motion detection lamp up in a tree and have been running a time lapse video for the last week, but for some reason these people do not want to complete their collection with the last 2 remaining globes. I think the hoodlooms who took the globes live in the apartment buildings at the end of our block. The temptation is going to be too great for these guys, they will want those 2 last globes and when they do come for them…..i will have them!
Now you may say, Ironmeden, that was a lot of info to start your blog about the Gurkha Art Deco. I have to get through all that to get your thoughts on this cigar. Well I think describing a colonoscopy will be more throughough then what I thought of this cigar.
I’ve had this cigar for almost a year. I won it at one of our cigar club meetings and held on to it. The Art Deco comes in a glass tube and from what I can find, is the same cigar that is used for the Louis XIII cigar, but is not flavored.
I’m a big Gurkha fan. I really enjoy most of their sticks, some of my friends don’t get me on why I like them so much.
Their website had no info on the stick and doing a search for this line basically turned up cigar forum’s asking if anyone has ever smoked it. Well I can say, I have smoked it and you shouldn’t waste your money or your time smoking it, if you are a true believer in Gurkha.
The cigar is bland and flavorless. Ok, maybe I got paper and hay notes throughout, but there is no signature Gurkha flavor in this stick. Is it because I kept it in the tube? Maybe that has a little to do with it, but I don’t think having this aging with the rest of my cigars would of mattered much. I will say it is a smooth cigar.
My only recommendation for this cigar would be for the cigar smoker who only smokes mild cigars, if you have not tried Gurkha cigars, most of their lines are a medium to full bodied cigar, then yes this will be a very…very…very mild and timid cigar for you. This would be a fine morning smoke and would go well with your newspaper and coffee, but I was just plain bored with this cigar. I can’t believe i’m saying this, but i’m looking forward to the next cigar i’m smoking tonight…The Fighting Cock.
I give this cigar 1 out of 5. By the way, Sorry Dan, the Twins took 3 out 4 from your Sox. Yes 1/2 game out! The Ken Griffey, Jr curse has begun!
