Arganese CL3

My weekend didn’t get off on the right foot. On Friday I got out of work at 12:30pm. We are doing some ‘flex’ hours in the summer where some of us will work 9 hours Mon-Thur and then work 4 hours on Friday and take the afternoon off. What a perfect opportunity to sneak away to the cigar shop and have a smoke. I ventured over to St. Paul to relax at Stogies on Grand. I was in line ready to purchase my cigars when my cell phone started ringing. I was ready for a purchase so I let it go. It rang again and I got a text message from my neighbor. I put down my cigars and saw a call was from my wife and our neighbor. While I was looking at the screen my wife called in. She gave me the news that the high winds we were having that day had apparently damaged our patio set. How damaged at this point she didn’t know. I left Stogies and my neighbor called me on the way to my car. He informed me that the glass table top to my patio set was smashed in pieces and they couldn’t find my umbrella. I swore to myself because I felt about 2 feet tall at that point. I had forgotten to put the umbrella in it’s folded position.

I get home and I see the glass shattered all over the grass, the umbrella was tucked way in the corner (thanks to a neighbor who put it there for us) and my 2 tiki torches that were steel poles were bent over. It must of been quite violent to bend over those 2 tiki torches. I was expecting to see the patio windows smashed, but there was no damage to the windows, the chairs or the grill.

So I spent the next couple hours vacuuming up glass with the Shop-Vac. The glass top itself isn’t clear, it has a decorative design which doesn’t make it see through. I think by having it that way, the glass just shattered on impact and fell into small little pieces.

So we assessed the damage and went out that night to Menards where we purchased the patio set a few months ago. They still had the table and umbrella. With a purchase of 2 new tiki torches, the patio looks untouched.

So tonight I’d thought I would treat myself to a cigar I purchased last year in the Bahamas. I searched last year for some of those cigars, you know the ones. I did my research before leaving and thought I did a good job on getting some legit cigars. Well I pulled out the Cohiba Edicion Limitada 2005. I lit it up and it wasn’t bad, in fact it was quite silky smooth, but there was no flavor. I researched and found I had been taken.

Instead of cursing the shop owner who sold me the cigar, I went upstairs to the humidors and pulled out a recently acquired cigar, the Arganese CL3.

This cigar is the newest in the Arganese line which also includes the new ML3. The ’3′ in each of the names stands for ‘to the 3rd power’.

The CL3 is a Corojo wrapper with 3 times the Ligero filler normally found in cigars. This is to give it quite a punch.

The cigar is all Dominican, Wrapper, Binder and Filler.

I was told this cigar is a pre-release, so the band on the cigar was not it’s final production release. It has a blue and yellow stripes wrapping around the band, the name CL3 in large script and ‘by Arganese’ right below it. You can barely see the Arganese logo behind the CL3 which is a departure from their other lines where it stands out.

The wrapper was a medium brown in color with a few light veins, but it had a nice smooth look.

As I made a V-Cut to this torpedo I noticed the lightening bugs were out. It’s not often I get to see them and they more attractive then those June Bugs. I lit the foot with a wooden match and made my first few puffs. I had a hint of pepper on the tip of my tongue. I also got those ‘Arganese’ flavors.

Going an inch in the pepper taste was light, but noticeable. I started picking up hints of vanilla and wood. The draw was a little tight, but that probably is due to the v-cut and not just clipping the head of the cigar. So far this is a pretty good cigar, its not kicking my but quite yet.

Halfway through the burn it seemed to get a little uneven and I lit up another match to even it out. I also went and got my guillotine to mend the tough draw. Yes, that did the trick! Note to self, don’t be cute and make a v-cut to torpedo’s anymore.

The woody flavors really opened up after clipping the head. It was so much more enjoyable to smoke. The pepper was now biting my tongue. The smell of the smoke was quite delicious. The aroma it gave off was light.

The last quarter of the cigar was a little more peppery, but it wasn’t overbearing.

The CL3 is a great addition to the Arganese line. I really enjoyed this cigar and I cannot wait to smoke another. I give this cigar a 4 out of 5. It has earned the Corinthian Leather stature.

The CL3 comes in two sizes, the Torpedo and Robusto. If you have Arganese available in your local shop, you should start seeing them in the next month on your shelves, if not, bug your local cigar shop owner to get these.
