Graycliff Crystal – Pirate

Posted By ironmeden on April 15, 2008

It’s not many times I revisit a cigar for a review. March 2007 I was in the Bahama’s and purchased a box of Graycliff Crystal’s. I smoked a couple right away and gave a few away after returning state side.

My overall opinion from those first few smokes were not impressive. They advertise this line as their full flavored line. I was underwhelmed by any power from this cigar. The cigar had a mild to medium flavor with a slight bitterness. For the price that was paid for this cigar, I was disappointed.

My history with Graycliff was similar to this experience. The first few sticks are OK smokes, but letting them age in a humidor, then you got a great smoke and thats exactly what I did with the Crystal’s.

I have been rotating the cigars in my humidor over the last year, like a plant I would talk to them, ask them how their doing, were they well humidified. It was a nurturing relationship.

I pulled one out over the weekend and noticed right away how much darker the wrapper had turned. It has certainly has looked like it aged well. The veins did look more prominent.

Lighting up this cigar, this experience this time around was very different from my original review. The flavors were more robust! The Graycliff lines are not know for their spicy cigars and this one doesn’t break the mold, expect right at the end of the cigar where I got a little tingle on the middle of my tongue.

The cigar is smooth throughout and it has a great draw. The burn was even and never needed a relight.

The only other cigar I’ve heard people have a better experience after it aged 6 to 12 months in a humidor has been the Opus X. Even guys I know who work at cigar shoppe will get a the new shipment, put that in their humidor and break out the previous sticks.

The Graycliff can be a GreatCliff, but you must have the patience with your investment.
