Arturo Fuente Anejo Reserva No. 55

Sometimes in Winter
I gaze into the streets
and walk through snow and city sleet
behind your room

Sometimes in Winter
forgotten memories
remember you behind the trees
with leaves that cried

These are the lyrics to the Blood Sweat and Tears song Sometimes in Winter.

The only leaves crying in winter are the tobacco leaves suffering in my humidor. It’s really hard to keep my humidor at the precise humidity during these months. I must admit I don’t have the most secure humidor, its a humidor I purchased from Cigar International a few years ago. If there is one thing that I can pass on to a reader of this blog…Buy your humidor at a local cigar shoppe. My experience with this humidor has been poor, as nice as it looks, it doesn’t have a solid seal. Yes you will probably pay a little more, but the quality of the humidor will be well worth it.

So tonight I was on a rescue mission. What cigar can I save from it’s torture?

The Arturo Fuente Anejo jumped into my hands and it screamed “Save Me”! The cigar is beautiful. It has a long cedar band that covers the majority of the cigar with a red felt band at the foot of the cigar. The cigar I have is the No. 55 which is a torpedo 6×55. The cigar was given to me by a member of our cigar club Havana Nights. After doing some research on this cigar, it was a very generous gift.

The maduro wrapper is flawless. I clipped the head and lit the cedar band and touched the flame to the foot of the cigar. The cigar has the feeling of a tightly packed cigar, but the draw is smooth.

For being a full flavored cigar is there no spicy or peppery notes. It has a nice leathery taste. The maduro wrapper gives off a nice sweet taste, not as sweet as the Adan y Eva Maduro I reviewed a few weeks ago, but it is certainly there.

It burned evenly throughout the whole smoke. The Anejo is very consistent throughout. It didn’t have different flavors as I smoked through it. This is one fantastic smoke!

I’ve had a few fellow cigar smokers that smoke this cigar as their daily cigar and God bless them that they can afford it, but this is truly a cigar that is made for special occasions. I would rather pay the $30 for this cigar any day then pay the $50 I spent for the bland Stradivarius.

The quality of the cigar is absolutely wonderful. I can’t recommend this cigar more highly. As I did my research for this cigar I found that it is a rare cigar. It’s made of the same Dominican filler and binder as the Opus X with a 5 year old Connecticut maduro wrapper, which has also been aged in cognac barrels. This probably adds to the sweetness of the cigar’s flavor.

I didn’t have anything to drink with this cigar, but i’m sure it would go well with a fine scotch.

So grab one of these and smoke it up for your birthday or New Years celebration. You will not be disappointed by this cigar.
