5 Vegas Miami

I’ve made the Europeans angry! They are amassing their armies at the border and invasion is imminent!
With my recent post about the Cuvee Blanc, I have learned a few things, First that the Cuvee is not the rage in Europe and second, even with a disagreements about cigars, you can gain new cigar buddies, even if they are across the world.
A reader from France emailed me to correct us on the Cuvee. Not only is not popular, they have not heard anything about the cigar in his region. Damn advertising does it to me again, first Crystal Pepsi and now this. My trust in 30 seconds commercials is quite diminished.
Well what I did find out from our reader…uhmmm I’ll nickname him Guy. We’ll Guy is the French version of me here in Minnesota. We both head up a cigar club that boasts about 30 members each. Their group has been around a little longer then ours and they travel to exotic places to enjoy their cigars such as Cuba. You see the French can enjoy the Cuban cigars and travels to Cuba due to their country not enforcing a almost 50 year ban on trade and travel to the island which is roughly 90 miles away from the US border. Guy sent me some great pics of their trip to Cuba and to the Cohiba factory.
I look forward to more correspondence with our new friend here at The Velvet Cigar!
As for my cigar review, we have a new sponsor here, Cigars Direct . They sent us a nice bundle of cigars for Elvis and I to sample. The one that jumped out at me right away was the new 5 Vegas Miami. I have been wanting to try the new blend from 5 Vegas and who else is the blender of their new brand? Well of course it’s Pepin Garcia. He seems to have his hands in everything recently and of course to much praise for his blending techniques.
Yesterday I traveled to Tobacco Grove to sample my new cigar. It was quite a busy day at the Grove. It was Black Friday and all the husbands were there relaxing and smoking their cigars. Now going into this review, some of my favorite cigars are from 5 Vegas, such as the Series A and the Classic Double Corona.
I would be smoking the Robusto which is 5×50. The construction is solid, the vein’s stick out more then any cigar i’ve seen from 5 Vegas. The band is simple, it just says the name of the name of the company and the brand. Its a dark blue with accents of gold.
I punched the head of the cigar and lit it up. It had a very robust flavor with some complex flavors. It was smooth and interesting at first to smoke. The ash was a bright white for the first half of the cigar, but about halfway through it turned to a white/gray ash. The first inch of the cigar was delicious, but after that first inch it got a little bitter.
Then a the halfway point the cigar turned harsh almost sour. That lasted for about 10 minutes and it smoothed out after that. I wasn’t quite sure what that was in the middle, I had never experienced anything like that before in a cigar. I was only drinking water with the cigar so there wasn’t any alcohol or soda to obscure my tasting palate.
The cigar smoothed out again and those complex flavors from the the beginning of the smoke returned and it turned into a nice pleasurable smoke.
The cigar appears to have many different experiences while you smoke it. There are some ‘ups’ and some ‘downs’, but mostly the ‘ups’ overtake this cigar to give it a positive review. If you enjoy any line of the 5 Vegas, I would recommend this cigar, also if your a fan of Pepin Garcia, you should pick this one up. If you have not had a Pepin Garcia cigar due to the price of some of his blends with other manufacturers, this would be a great introduction to his talent.
Here is a quick synopsis of the 5 Vegas Miami:
This cigar is made by the hottest blender and producer in the business, Don “Pepin” Garcia. Inspired by a small batch blend produced in Miami, this line features six enticing sizes, all of which are medium in body and produce rich, full flavors. While for years a small batch blend of 5 Vegas has been manufactured in Miami and reserved for special events throughout the country, the Miami is now available to the public. The original Miami blend has finally been replicated in one of Nicaragua’s most prominent factories, El Rey de los Habanos, enabling 5 Vegas to offer its full Miami line to cigar aficionados worldwide.

I am from France too and I can confirm that we don’t hear much about Cuvée Blanc. Nice review, btw!
I am not an angry european and there is no army at your door, just
sad to see that everytime an american commercial wants to pump up
their image on a product, they give it an imaginary european look or european taste or another european what so ever. 9 out of 10 times
it’s a false image of europe. When some chef, on a tv show, tells you
that in france the best chefs put peanut butter on those crepes suzette
and does a 30min. show making you belive that it’s true, that is really
taking the public for assholes. The one’s who have been to europe or
know better do not look at those shows anyway so who’s going to say
it’s not true. Cigar wise it’s the same. Most of all the cigar brands in
the states say “We make the best cigars north of Havana. The cuban
cigar is not what it’s cut out to be anymore. They were tops 50 years
ago when WE were there, now it’s crap”. But when it comes to advertising,
they always put up front a cuban look, cuban style, cuban taste, cuban
rollers, cuban packaging etc.etc. Cuvee Blanc is a prefect example of
both. So don’t belive everything you hear, find out the truth and then
make your own opinion objectively. My best to all, laficion
