Casada Connecticut Toro

My night started with seeing Saw IV. What a crazy movie. My brain can’t stop thinking about it, but as I think more about it, i’m more confused. I’ll have to watch this movie again to fully understand what actually happened. Those who see it will understand.

After the movie I went home and had a another wonderful shipment of cigars from TexCigars. In this package were the Casada cigars. I brought the package with me over to Elvis’ place. I split the package with him so he could also review the cigars.

The cigars were Connecticut Toro. Taking it out of the wrapper the cigar has a nice aroma. The construction is a little suspect. It has a soft look to it with a few blemishes. Its not an attractive cigar.

The band is simple, it has a lady in the middle of the band with accents of red, gold and blue highlights. Its not a shiny band nor does it really stand out. Its not an eye catcher.

I started smoking it and from the beginning to the end, I was not impressed with the cigar. Each draw would leave a bitter taste in my mouth. The ash was light gray with black streaks throughout. It burned even throughout, the wrapper seemed to burn quite black as I smoked it.

The smoke from the cigar is pleasant, I didn’t get annoyed by the smoke at all.

Here is a description from TexCigar’s website:

The Casada line of cigars is hand-made in Nicaragua and has tobacco grown, blended, and wrapped by the Oliva Family. The Connecticut wrapper is one of the very favorites around here at Tex Cigars.  The Casada Connecticut Toro has a golden wrapper with a creamy and smooth blend of tobacco.

Now I have to say this since the cigar is made by the Oliva Family, if this is the kind of cigar they are producing themselves, they should just fold up shop. I’m disappointed to know they produce this cigar. They have such great quality cigars with the Series  S, O and G’s and the new V’s. I can’t believe they would produce this quality of cigar. They should just focus on what they do great and just let this line go.

Maybe this cigar needs some aging. I’ll probably put the other cigar in my humidor and let it sit for about 6 months and pull it out. At this point I really can’t recommend this cigar. There are just so many better tasting economical cigars out there that are worth smoking.

I wanted to update this entry with some new tasting notes.

I had this cigar aging in my humidor since Nov 2007. I smoked it tonight and enjoyed it. It did have a bitterness at the start of the cigar, but at the halfway point the cigar really did really have some tasty flavors. It still was a light flavor, but there was some complexity to the smoke. I did get some fruity notes as it went along with a light leather taste.

I think aging really helped this cigar out.
