LA FLOR DOMINICANA DOUBLE LIGERO OSCURO NATURAL LIMITED EDITION “A”

Big title for a big cigar.
Yesterday was my Mom’s birthday and we had the family over for a big turkey dinner. After the dinner I was chatting with my brother in law about cigars and gave him a Oliva Series G Natural. He’s not much of a cigar smoker, but he’ll have one on a rare occasion. I’m sure that Oliva will sit and dry out and he’ll find it in 3 months and wonder if it’s any good.
As we were talking I wanted to bring out a cigar I won at our cigar club raffle in Sept. Joel the owner of Burn donated the La Flor Dominicna Double Ligero Series A. He said this was released only for the RTDA and they only made 1000 of them. This cigar measures 9×47. When I showed my brother in law he was quite impressed with the size of the cigar.

As I took it out of my humidor I noticed right away how oily this cigar was in my hands. It was almost like I had lotion on my hands. I knew I would have to light this up. It had that juicy look and feel to it.
I thought about keeping it for a while, basically to show it off, but being its 9 inches, my traveling humidor would be way to small and any cigar bag I had would still be too small. What the hey i’ll light it.
Previously I had smoked the Double Ligero Chisels and really enjoyed the full flavor. They were a serious butt kicker. If you didn’t drink with that cigar and went out driving, you would be pulled over for DWI. It would leave me quite light headed after smoking.
So on a humid October evening I took my chances. I would not be driving anywhere, but only relaxing on my porch.
The construction of the cigar is solid. Its quite veiny and again I note the oily feel to the cigar. Just looking at it is quite intimidating, makes me wonder how i’ll get through it in only a few hours.
I light it up with a match and take my first puffs, its an easy draw for being so long. The first inch burned uneven and the ash was quite flaky. After ashing after the first inch the cigar seemed to correct itself and it burned even throughout the rest of the smoke.
The flavor it quite full. The taste I got right away was dirt. For a leaf that is farthest away from the ground, thats all I could taste.
As I approached the halfway point the cap came apart. The cigar is so easy to let hang from my mouth within my teeth. I guess I chomped on it too much.
I reach the halfway point and in the distant sky I notice some lightening, and then some light sprinkles. I check out a local radar…this was the wrong smoke to light up tonight. Huge storms were on my doorstep. Somehow I must forge on. The cigar has picked up a little harshness and this point.
The wind has started to pick up, something ominous is on it’s way. I’ve smoked 5 inches at this point. The ashes in my ashtray have just blown away and the sprinkles have become heavier. Damn that weather girl at 6pm when she said storms would not be here until 2am.
I put my computer inside and sat for a little while longer outside. After that the heavy sprinkles subsided, but the wind was still strong. I felt like the cigar gods were holding off the storm until I could finish my cigar.
I puffed away for about 20 minutes longer outside before the rain really started. I got down to the last 2 inches at that point.
The Series A is a good cigar, but if you really want to enjoy a Double Ligero, then you should stick with the Chisel. This cigar could of easily lasted 2 hours if I were not taking such fast draws off of it.
The cigar retails for about $18.
The cigar left me hungry, I really want White Castle now.
