Perdomo Habano Maduro

What a So-So week!
So I thought I would reflect with the newest cigar from Perdomo. The line is the Habano which consists of either a Corojo or Maduro wrapper. The tobacco is all from Nicaragua and are collective from three different regions in Nicaragua, the Esteli, Condega and Jalapa Valley.
I have both sitting in my humidor and decided to try the Maduro tonight. Both cigars have a gorgeous band. One small band at the foot of the cigar and an oversized band at the top. The bands are bright with a ivory/pearl color accented by grey and silver with the Perdomo logo in the middle of the band. I’m not a fan of oversized bands. Keep it simple, but I have to say this is a attractive band.
The Maduro is very dark in color, solid in construction, there was no visible flaws to the wrapper. I had the Gordo size which is 6×60, it is heavy and it sure does give the mouth a workout with that 60 ring gauge size.
Upon light I had to use 2 matches, it takes a lot to light this cigar when the wind is blowing. Finally lighting it I get a smooth and easy draw. For being a heavy cigar I thought it might be tough, but it wasn’t. The first initials draws there are flavors of chocolate and leather. It was a nice combination of tastes.
As it reached the middle it really smoothed out and I was getting a creamy sweet flavor. So far the cigar had not exhibited any harshness which I get when smoking the Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro. I know they are different cigars, but if i’m picking sides in this race, so far the Habano is the winner.
Now it’s time to reflect. This past Tuesday The Havana Night Cigar Club met at the St. Croix Cigar Company in Hudson Wisconsin. We had a great time checking out the lounge and Dave the owner was a very gracious and accommodating host. This is one of 4 locations the club will be deciding on to call home for the club.
I finally met a local celebrity which I have been trying to get joined up with the club. After email and voice mail tag over many months it was a pleasure to get together and smoke a cigar with him.
So the week started off well, but then something came up at work that was mostly out of my control, but I feel will come to bite me in the ass later. This has really concerned me and has been on my mind a lot throughout the weekend. I haven’t been a joyous person to be around the last few days.
I did have a great time while again working at Burn on Saturday. I’m really starting to get the hang of the retail side. I’m still nervous at times, but I’m feeling a lot more comfortable. Joel has been great at teaching me the ways of the cigar.
One thing I will be taking upon myself to learn are the cigars in more detail. I really want to be able to answer customer questions in more detail. I want to be able to tell a customer more info regarding a cigar they are smoking, for example this Perdomo i’m smoking. I want to let them know that the Perdomo Habono is made from tobacco from 3 different regions in Nicaragua and comes in the Maduro and Corojo wrappers. Then be able to tell them the difference in taste they will experience between the different wrappers.
I’m going to challenge myself over the next 2 weeks, but I won’t go overboard right away. I’ve picked out 3 lines of cigars i’m going to learn more about which are the Gurkha Regent, Diamond Crown Maximus and the Oliva Series G and O.
Now on to the finish of the Habano Maduro. The creamy flavor is still there at the end but the sweetness fades and gives way back to the leather taste. This isn’t a complex cigar but it just relaxes you as you continue through. This is a medium to full strength cigar and it isn’t over powering. There was a subtle spiciness and sweet flavor as it ended.
This is a good addition to the Perdomo line of cigars.
