The Legend Series – Gray Label – Cusano

My journey through the Legend Series from Cigar International continues.

I’m not sure i’m going to find a better cigar in the series other then the Matasa Blue Label. I could smoke those day and night. They are delicious cigars.

Elvis got a 5 pack of these cigar a few weeks ago and gave me one. I decided to pull it out and give it a try. So far the only Legend cigar that I am not a fan of is the White Label by Camacho.

The Gray Label from Cusano would be my next challenge. I’ve only had the Cusano 18′s before, both the Connecticut wrapper and the Maduro. I’ve enjoyed those cigars a lot, especially the Maduro.

The cigar has a clean bright Connecticut wrapper. Not a flaw to be seen. A whiff of the cigar doesn’t give me much to work with. There are no characteristics emitting from the cigar. It smells like a cigar.

It lights up easy with a smooth draw. The first inch of this cigar was bitter. I was not raving about this cigar. After that first inch the cigar seemed to turn around. There were definite floral tastes and aroma’s coming from the cigar. It burned evenly and rather quickly also. The ash is light gray with some black tints highlighting parts of the ash.

At the halfway point the cigar seemed to get smoother and the accent of the floral became stronger. It is quite unique in its flavor. At this point I know what cigar I can compare it to. The CAO Criollo has a stronger flavor to it, but the Gray Label is similar in scent, but lighter. The cigar is mild to medium in strength and most of the time tipping towards the medium level.

Here is the review of this cigar from cigarinternational.com

Cusano is a top-notch boutique brand with a solid reputation for making high quality super-premiums at a very affordable price. The secret lies within the blending process, as Mike Cusano employs several premium wrapper leaves to create a unique smoke with layers of flavor and a smooth, enjoyable character. Their CI Legends is no different. A beautiful Connecticut shade wrapper leaf graces this beauty, which contains an additional Connecticut wrapper within an aged blend of premium, Dominican long-fillers. Mild to medium in body, but teeming with flavor, this cigar envelops your taste buds with a creamy, buttery smooth flavor that smacks of dry, sweet wood due to an extensive aging process in Spanish cedar. The aftertaste is crisp, with a clean tobacco taste that keeps you coming back for more. The burn is slow and true, allowing you to truly appreciate the soothing, mellow flavors at play.

At the 3/4 mark I was getting that crisp aftertaste of tobacco. It was quite remarkable that the cigar just changed at that point. The floral flavor subsided and the strong tobacco taste just hit my mouth. At the end of the cigar the taste in my mouth was very different. That floral taste stayed behind for quite a while afterwards.

Overall the cigar is good. I wouldn’t mind getting a 5 pack just to have when i’m in the mood for something with a little lighter floral taste.
