Maduro, Maduro, Maduro

C’mon man its what all the cool kids are smoking!
In the last 3 months there seems to be a increase of cigars hitting your local B&M and the internet sites that are now boasting a new wrapper. What is that wrapper you may ask? Well by the title of this blog you may of guessed it, a Maduro Wrapper.
Old cigars with a new Maduro wrapper:
Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro, CAO Gold Maduro, CAO Black VR and as a triple threat to the Maduro market, the soon to be released Camacho Triple Maduro, filler, binder and wrapper consist of all Maduro all the time.
Now i’m not ragging on Maduro, I love Maduro cigars, but did someone find a secret island that is growing Maduro leaves and suddenly we have a glut of this leaf available?
With all these products hitting the market in a short span it may drag on the quality of the product out there, just like too many Jude Law movies opening in a short period of time.
Can a Maduro wrapper save a cigar? The CAO Gold and Black are great cigars to start with and to wrap a Maduro wrapper around can only make it better. In the case of the Perdomo Lot 23, you could wrap Molly Ringwald’s panties around that cigar and it still wouldn’t improve it.

Tonight I’m sitting outside and I decided to review the CAO Black VR. Recently I decided to only drink water when i’m going to review a cigar to give it more of an honest description of the cigar.
Elvis recently gave me this cigar, its the Cathedral which is a torpedo 6×52. The construction looks solid and it has a slight shiny glow to it in the moonlight, ok it was the tiki torch flame.
I lit up the cigar and what a smooth light. There was no harshness or bitter taste. It was smooth and mild. I puffed on it for a few minutes and enjoyed it greatly. The only thing it was lacking was a finish. About 1/4 of the way through it seemed that if I didn’t keep puffing on the cigar it felt like it would go out. If I let it sit for a minute or two, I had to take 4 to 5 hard draws to get the cigar going again, even though it didn’t go out. The draw isn’t tough at all. But after that 1/4 point the cigar seemed to lose that feeling of losing its burn.
This is a cigar in my opinion could be an everyday cigar. It was mild until about little over half way completed when I started to get a little tartness and peppery taste. It certainly seemed to change at this point.
Elvis asked me to take note of the smoke from this cigar. Usually when I smoke a cigar and I inhale the smoke, I might go into a coughing attack, but the smoke from the VR is light and easy to take it. Its enjoyable to smell.
The end of the cigar is when I got the spiciness.
Here is a review from cigarinternational.com
This is CAO’s newest and potentially greatest achievement since the CAO Black original blend set up shop in your hearts and minds 5 years ago. Crafted with the utmost in care and detail, the Black ‘VR’ is produced in CAO’s esteemed “CAO Fabrica de Tabacos” factory in Danli, Honduras. The new ‘VR’ employs well-aged Nicaraguan and Mexican long-fillers which yield a robust and slightly spicy profile, while its oily Brazilian Maduro Arapiraca wrapper adds balance and a hefty dose of rich-sweet flavor. Off the bat you’re greeted with a burst of peppery goodness that smoothes out almost immediately as the Brazilian wrapper kicks in its sweet, leathery character to the mix. With quality construction, superior raw materials, unwavering consistency, oodles of flavor, and ample complexity – CAO’s new Black ‘VR’ delivers it all in a tidy package.
Overall this is a good cigar. I would recommend it. Enjoy the mild beginning to the cigar and you’ll be pleasantly surprised as you get to the end.
I did appease the alcohol gods, after finishing the VR I poured myself a Dewers 12 year old Special Reserve.
